Emily (played by Audrey Tautou) had an unhappy childhood in the eyes of others - during a health check performed by her father, he discovered that her heart was beating too fast and concluded that she had a heart condition, which led to her being isolated from school. Then, due to an accident, her mother suddenly died in front of her. None of this affected Emily's optimistic outlook on life. In 1997, the death of Princess Diana made her acutely aware of the loneliness and fragility of life. Emily then started a series of helping plans, including supporting her reclusive and depressed elderly neighbor, dealing with the unkind vegetable stall co-worker, helping her old landlord who had lost childhood memorabilia, and trying to assist her love-stricken coffee shop colleague. However, she never imagined that the adult video store clerk Nino (played by Mathieu Kassovitz) would become her greatest challenge, leading Emily to embark on a comically troublesome alternative plan...
