Humans and numerous alien species coexist in a bustling interstellar metropolis called Alpha, the City of a Thousand Stars. For centuries, Alpha has become a wonderful paradise where various groups live in peace, thriving and prosperous. Valerian (played by Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (played by Cara Delevingne) are chosen to be the guardians of Alpha. They are operational officers in the security division, assigned to intercept the trade of a rare item. This rare item has a mysterious connection to a rare species that should have disappeared decades ago. They then arrive at the vast City of a Thousand Stars, where their commander Arun Filitt (played by Clive Owen) is kidnapped in the command center, leading the duo to realize the unusual value of the item they possess. The two pursue the culprits, discovering that they are caught in the midst of a brewing interstellar incident...
