Lewis, played by Owen Vaccaro, loses both of his parents in a terrible accident. Left alone, he has no choice but to pack his bags and move in with his uncle Jonathan, played by Jack Black, whom he hasn't seen in years. What Lewis doesn't expect is that his seemingly ordinary uncle is actually a powerful magician. Thus, Lewis settles into his uncle's house, which is filled with supernatural occurrences, and meets his uncle's friend, Mrs. Zimmerman, played by Cate Blanchett. The house is always filled with a strange ticking sound, and Jonathan and Mrs. Zimmerman try in vain to find the source of this noise. The culprits behind it all are the evil dark magic couple, Isaac, played by Kyle MacLachlan, and Selena, played by Renee Goldsberry.
