In Afghanistan under the brutal rule of the Taliban, ordinary civilians, especially women, live in an agonizing hellish existence. A determined young girl named Parvana (voiced by Saara Chaudry) goes out with her father (voiced by Ali Rizvi Badshah) to earn money for the family, only to witness her father being insulted and humiliated by a former student. She and her family also witness the illegal arrest of her father. With a sick mother, an adult sister, and a hungry younger brother at home, young Parvana has no choice but to cut her hair and disguise herself as a boy to step out into the unpredictable world of work. Along the way, she encounters a former friend also disguised as a boy and befriends a silent, tall Taliban fighter. As the shadow of war looms closer, Parvana does everything she can to locate her missing father and bring him home... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Deborah Ellis.
