Years ago, Amelia Vannings (played by Essie Davis) and her husband were involved in a serious car accident, and her husband unfortunately died in the incident. After that, Amelia worked hard at a nursing home while also taking care of her young son Samuel (played by Noah Wiseman). Without his father's protection, Samuel has been afraid of monsters since childhood, but he also displays extremely violent and rebellious behavior. Samuel, who brought dangerous items to school, was reprimanded by the school, and Amelia had no choice but to temporarily entrust him to Aunt Claire. One night, Samuel chose a previously unseen picture book, 'Mister Babadook,' as a bedtime story, but the story was so bizarre and terrifying that Amelia stopped reading it. To her surprise, little Samuel seemed to go into a trance. He claimed that Babadook had come to their home, and the boy's behavior became increasingly outlandish, while terrifying phenomena continued to occur one after another.
