A pair of gay lovers from Serbia, undeterred by the violent threats from neo-Nazi skinheads, insisted on holding the first-ever pride parade in the capital, Belgrade. In the dire situation where the police refused to provide protection, the two unexpectedly received help from four tough guys from the underworld. These four uncles were enemies during the Yugoslav Wars and had no sympathy for homosexuals, but by chance, they stepped in to become the unexpected guardians of the parade... 'Rainbow Squad' can be considered the gay version of 'Léon: The Professional.' Director Srdan Dragojevic is one of the most famous directors from the former Yugoslavia. In 2001, he personally witnessed the brutal anti-gay violence that overshadowed Serbia's first pride parade, which inspired him to make this film. The movie blends dark humor with intense fight scenes and became the highest-grossing film in the former Yugoslav countries after its release in November 2011, earning excellent reviews throughout the Balkans. It also won the Audience Award in the Panorama section and the Teddy Award for Best Feature at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in 2012.
