In the first half of the 20th century, British colonial rule in India was nearing its end. Different social systems and revolutionary undercurrents sweeping across the world surged forth, leading India into its most turbulent period. Vasseypur, located in the center of Dhanbad, became a symbol of chaos and riots. The powerful Shahid Khan, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, stirred up trouble by impersonating a member of the Qureshi tribe and hijacking a train, which ultimately led to his expulsion from Vasseypur. After experiencing various hardships, he worked for the coal mine owner Ramadhak Singh, played by Tigmanshu Dhulia, but was killed by Singh due to a planned betrayal, almost dragging his family into the aftermath. The death of his father sowed the seeds of hatred in young Sardar Khan, played by Manoj Bajpai, who grew up to become as fierce as his father and allied with gangs to repeatedly clash with the powerful Singh family. Meanwhile, Sardar's reputation in Vasseypur began to rise, inevitably leading to a confrontation with Sultan, another bitter enemy of his father from years past.
