Geniuses and madmen are often just two descriptions of the same person. Detective Chen Guibin (played by Liu Qingyun) is such a character, having once cut off his own ear like the genius painter Van Gogh. Despite having solved countless cases and possessing extraordinary detective skills, he is ultimately deemed a madman by society and retires early from the police force. Officer He Jia'an (played by An Zhijie) receives a difficult case. The crime scene is in the woods, and after two officers, Wang Guozhu (played by Li Guolin) and Gao Zhiwei (played by Lin Jiadong), handle the case, only Gao Zhiwei returns safely, while Wang Guozhu and his gun mysteriously disappear. He Jia'an invites Chen Guibin for guidance but unexpectedly encounters Chen Guibin's 'madman' behaviors once again during the investigation. He is convinced that Gao Zhiwei is the murderer and bases his reasoning on a vast amount of his own imagination. He claims to see Gao Zhiwei's 'seven deadly sins,' which led him down the path of crime. However, getting He Jia'an to believe all of this is not easy, as he has already been deceived by Gao Zhiwei's acting skills...
