The story follows a young chef named Jin Kai (played by Iko Uwais) in contemporary San Francisco's Chinatown, who becomes embroiled in a deadly chase involving the Triads and the ancient Chinese mystical power known as the "Five Elements." Unintentionally bestowed with this mysterious power, Jin Kai is forced to become a Five Elements assassin, and he must use his exceptional martial arts skills to reclaim his superpowers from five modern criminals who wish to destroy the world.
