In 1978, Taiwan filmed a story about Hu Weiyong, the Left Chancellor of the Ming Dynasty, who plotted to betray the country. To stop Hu's treachery, the martyrs led sixty Shaolin disciples to fight their way through the encirclement of the Jinyiwei (brocade-clad guards) in order to get close to the imperial procession. In the thirteenth year of the Hongwu reign, Hu Weiyong was ultimately executed in the market for his treason. One hundred seventy-nine loyal martyrs were honored by the grace of the emperor with a gold plaque inscribed 'Loyal and Virtuous of a Generation' as a reward for their fidelity.
