Rugby is incredibly important to the residents of Canaan Town. As the beloved coach of their high school team, the Little Wolves, Gilmore (played by Jon Voight) has the final say, because under his leadership, the Little Wolves won the state championship twice. Max (played by James Van Der Beek) and Lance (played by Paul Walker) are close friends, and at the same time, Lance is a strong forward on the team. However, as an important game approaches, Lance gets injured and has to withdraw from the team, leaving Max, who is somewhat underqualified, to take his place. Surprisingly, Max performs quite well, suddenly transforming from an unnoticed player into a local hero. But victory brings glory, as well as trouble.
