The story begins in Datong, Shanxi in 2001. Qiaoqiao (played by Zhao Tao) and Binbin (played by Liao Fan) have been in love for many years. Qiaoqiao wishes to settle down and live a stable life with Binbin, but as the local boss, Binbin has higher ambitions. In an unexpected event, Binbin is betrayed and his life is in danger. Qiaoqiao takes a private gun Binbin had hidden and steps in to save him but ends up being sentenced to five years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. Five years pass in the blink of an eye, and after being released from prison, Qiaoqiao finds the world has changed dramatically, but her sincere feelings for Binbin remain unchanged. She braves mountains and rivers in search of Binbin, only to find that he has lost his former brilliance and has a new girlfriend by his side. With no money to her name, Qiaoqiao depends on her own wisdom to struggle and finally carves out a place for herself.
