On the police car, the captured serial killer Yan Shansan (played by Ken Ogata) appears relaxed, and during the subsequent interrogation, he refuses to disclose how he killed the employees Shibata and Baba... Yan Shansan comes from a Catholic fisherman family. Due to religious discrimination, the Yan family's small boat was confiscated, and young Yan attempted to resist but was stopped by his father, causing his father to lose his status in Yan's eyes. As a young man, after being released from prison for stealing American military equipment, he married Kazuko due to her pregnancy, but soon found himself in prison again for fraud. His father visited to prevent Kazuko from getting divorced, but unexpectedly, the two had an illicit relationship. After being released from prison again, Yan despises what his wife and father have done and runs away from home, beginning a life of wandering filled with murder and fraud. Disguising himself as a university professor, he engages with the prostitutes at his hotel, intermittently committing numerous crimes, while the mother and child living with him remain unaware that he is a notorious fugitive in Japan... This film was awarded the top spot in the ten best films of 1979 by Japan's "Film Weekly."
