In order to sort through her grandmother's belongings, the protagonist, Yuhira, traveled alone to Niobai Island during the summer vacation. After taking one of the few ferries that run only once a day, he met a girl who was letting the sea breeze play with her hair while gazing at the horizon where the sea meets the sky. When he came back to his senses, the girl was already gone. Yuhira felt a hint of loss, but he continued on to his grandmother's house. There, a young aunt of Yuhira was already sorting through the belongings. As Yuhira helped to organize the items filled with his grandmother's memories, he gradually adapted to the 'island life' that had bewildered him upon arrival. The encounters with nature that couldn't be experienced in the urban lifestyle reminded him of the bits and pieces he had once forgotten and cherished. He met a girl gazing at the sea. He met a girl searching for magical butterflies. He met a girl looking for a billion and a pirate ship. He met a girl living in a quiet lighthouse. On the island, he made new friends—and he once thought, if only this summer would never end.
