The drama tells the intense survival and success story of a female slave in the Joseon era, where names, identities, and even husbands are all part of the false narrative of a woman's true story. Lim Ji-yeon plays the character of Gu-deok, a slave born to slave parents. After a conflict with her cruel mistress, she escapes and meets a new, kind mistress, becoming her adopted daughter. However, when the kind mistress abruptly dies, Gu-deok discards her name and starts a new life as a different mistress. Kim Young-woo plays Song Seo-in, a scion of the high magistrate, who becomes romantic in the face of love. His character evolves as he gets entangled with Gu-deok through a variety of events.
