Guitarist El (played by Antonio Banderas) makes a living performing at a nightclub. One day, his girlfriend is shot by a local drug lord, and El is also shot in the left hand, making it impossible for him to play the guitar again. From then on, his guitar case no longer holds a guitar but weapons. He carries his guitar case through street after street to take revenge for his girlfriend. The drug lord learns that El is seeking vengeance and sends his men to assassinate him. In a moment of crisis, El is saved by the beautiful Carolina (played by Salma Hayek). Surviving against all odds strengthens El's resolve to seek revenge.
