Jinzi is a girl of about ten years old, and most of the time she takes care of her mother, Ruth. Sharing the story of eighteen-year-old A'er, who works hard to keep her mother from a life of selling her body, living in poverty; her mother cannot forget the life of a courtesan. After some coaxing and pressure from her daughter, she returns to a normal job as a maid, but the unruly mother secretly goes out at night to sell her aging, waning body, leaving her daughter heartbroken. Faced with the pressures of life and the torment of desires, the daughter eventually follows in her mother's footsteps, falling into the sea of prostitution and taking her mother's place.
