 Synopsis
For a long time, Shanghainese women have seemed somewhat strange and alternative to people from other provinces in China. For example, when Shanghainese women do their hair, outsiders see it as overly pretentious and exaggerated. They mockingly say that they can't understand how many styles Shanghainese women can come up with! However, in reality, doing hair is indeed a significant matter for certain typical Shanghainese women. As the writer Liu Xinwu said: it relates to their identity, their dignity, their past glory, and their aspirations for the future. In extreme cases, it can even be related to their life and death. The protagonist, Ai Ni, is such a woman.
