Synopsis

Toby is about 16 years old, living in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles with her father and younger brother. She invites a gas station attendant named Harlan to join her and her friends at the beach. Harlan, who is from South Dakota and wears a cowboy hat, speaks in a country accent and used to work on a ranch. They have a great time together; his simple expressions seem wise, and he is attentive and polite. Despite being more than twice her age, she wants to be with him. When her father opposes this, she rebels. Meanwhile, Harlan believes she is his soul mate, and he starts planning for her to leave her father. The worlds are about to collide, but which worlds will clash?
