The story takes place during the Ming Dynasty, where a bloody massacre that wiped out an entire family shocked the capital city. The only survivor of the tragedy is the daughter of the wealthy man Zhou Kuifu, Cai'er. Before dying, Zhou Kuifu gave Cai'er a willow whistle, urging her to seek help from Wang Zhenwei, a figure at the Tianxia Escort Agency, hoping that Wang Zhenwei could escort Cai'er back to her family home in Shanxi to reveal the truth about the event to the family elders. It turns out that the mastermind behind it all is Cai'er's stepmother, Yu Guanyin, who intends to seize all of Zhou Kuifu's wealth. Along the way, Cai'er fortuitously encounters Wang Zhenwei, who is also heading to Shanxi. Disguised as a man, the two of them travel together, an old man and a young woman. However, they encounter constant danger along the way, with endless assassins targeting Cai'er.
