In the war-torn northeast during the Republic of China period, young woman Zhao Ningjing (Zhou Xun) and her distant cousin Lin Shuangran (Zhang Xinzhe), who is already betrothed, develop genuine feelings for each other. Despite knowing the difficulties of their love journey, they still often travel between Shenyang and Fushun, seeking only to see each other just once more. Unfortunately, fate plays tricks, and due to their excessive caution and the malicious interference of others, their relationship ends in a wordless tragedy. Heartbroken, Zhao Ningjing whimsically marries the wealthy heir Xiong Yingsheng (Qiu Xinzhi), whom she does not love. This man, to prevent future issues, maliciously frames Lin Shuangran, forcing him to leave his hometown in disappointment. From then on, Zhao Ningjing and Lin Shuangran become two parallel lines. Over twenty years later, after the war ends, Lin Shuangran and Zhao Ningjing unexpectedly reunite in Hong Kong; however, the world has changed and so have they. Although they wish to rekindle their relationship with a sense of compensation, they have long lost the passion they once had.
