The girl dreaming of becoming a pop star, Sherrie Christian (played by Julianne Hough), arrives in Los Angeles, but while walking down the street, her money is stolen by a thief. A boy, Drew Boley (played by Diego Boneta), whom she meets by chance, lends her a helping hand and takes her to the bar where he works as a waiter. The bar owner, Dennis Dupree (played by Alec Baldwin), and his assistant, Lonny Barnett (played by Russell Brand), are worried about the bar's financial crisis, so they decide to invite rock star Stacee Jaxx (played by Tom Cruise) to perform. Sherrie and Drew are attracted to each other and fall in love. During one of the bar's performances, due to the unexpected absence of a band, Drew and his band Wolfgang Von Colt get to perform, earning rave reviews and gradually becoming a well-known band. However, due to Sherrie's fanatic admiration for Stacee, a misunderstanding arises between her and Drew, leading them to break up. Meanwhile, the mayor's wife (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones) is campaigning against rock music, claiming it is corrupting and trying hard to shut down Dennis's bar. Rock music faces a crisis in Los Angeles... This film is adapted from the musical of the same name.
