 Synopsis
At the end of the Meiji era, Japan achieved victory in the Russo-Japanese War, and a sense of arrogance swept through the nation, with military personnel and unscrupulous politicians gradually occupying important positions in the government. After killing her enemy, Shura Yuki (played by Meiko Kaji) becomes wanted and ultimately succumbs to exhaustion. Yuki is sentenced to death by hanging, but is rescued by a group of mysterious individuals while being transported to the execution site. The person who rescues her is the head of the secret police, Kikuichi Seishiro (played by Morio Kishida), who, due to the liberalist Tokunaga Murasui (played by Jūzō Itami) having crucial evidence against him and high-ranking official Terauchi Kenmichi (played by Toru Abe), commands Yuki to infiltrate Murasui's circle under the condition of his own life. However, Yuki is eventually moved by Murasui’s sincerity and takes the evidence to hide at the clinic of Murasui's brother, Shuukei (played by Yoshio Harada). The ruthless government scoundrels will not give up their target easily... This film is adapted from the original manga written by Ikki Koiwai (script) and illustrated by Kazuo Uemura.
