After Max (played by Kat Dennings) received praise from a renowned food critic in a magazine for her cake in the previous season, both Max and Caroline (played by Beth Behrs) excitedly awaited the results but were met with silence. The two had to continue working at a small restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, dealing with a variety of customers. Occasionally, they would joke around with their Asian boss Han Lee (played by Matthew Moy), the chef Oleg (played by Jonathan Kite) who constantly cracks risqué jokes, and Max's beloved cashier Earl (played by Garrett Morris). Their neighbor, Sophie (played by Jennifer Coolidge), who owns a cleaning business and hails from Poland, often visits the restaurant as well. The gathering of colorful characters at the restaurant leads to hilarious and thrilling stories.
