Ambassador Han (played by Tzi Ma) had previously led the crackdown on the smuggling activities of the Zhong Tao criminal group before being sent to the United States, which earned him the wrath of his enemies. In the U.S., Zhong Tao ordered his men to kidnap Ambassador Han's daughter, Su Yang (played by Julia Hsu), and demanded a ransom of 50 million dollars. The FBI launched a full-scale investigation upon hearing the news, but Ambassador Han was concerned about the efficiency of the American authorities and insisted on sending his old partner, Inspector Li (played by Jackie Chan), from Hong Kong to assist. To impede Li from solving the case first, the FBI dispatched problem-prone detective Carter (played by Chris Tucker) from the Los Angeles Police Department as Li's partner. Carter's flamboyant and high-profile style contrasted with Li's extraordinary skills and low-key caution, resulting in many misunderstandings and jokes for this temporary partnership. However, as they faced one crisis after another, the two gradually built a rapport. Will their rescue operation ultimately succeed? The film won the Best Actress Award (Elizabeth Peña) at the 1999 Latin Media Arts Awards and the Best On-Screen Duo at the 1999 MTV Movie Awards.
