The story takes place in the 1930s in the areas of Sichuan and Tibet, on the grasslands of Zhongdian, where the brave and vigorous young man Zha Xi Ping Cuo (played by Hu Ge) rides his horse gallantly. A tragic incident from his childhood involving his mother drives him, filled with thoughts of revenge, to join Old Man Chongcao to become a bandit in Jiulongwan. As an adult, in order to rescue Old Man Chongcao, who has been captured, Zha Xi kidnaps the local chieftain Duoji (played by Wei Zi) and his daughter Zhuang Ma (played by Wang Li Ke). This misunderstanding, caused by a conspiracy, leads to an unbreakable bond between the young man and the beautiful Zhuang Ma. Against the backdrop of a grand era, Sichuan and Tibet cannot remain isolated. Wang Da Long, the county chief of the Zhongdian National Government, demonizes the Communist Party, stirring up Duoji's brother Sangji (played by Duo Bu Jie) to usurp the position of chieftain and stop the Red Army from entering Tibet.
