In the early days of liberation, there was a serious bandit problem in Xiangxi, where remnants of the Kuomintang allied with local bandits, causing harm to the villages and widespread discontent among the local population. Liu Yutang, the captain of the People’s Liberation Army's anti-bandit squad, nicknamed 'Northeast Tiger' (played by Chen Jiatu), led the squad deep into the mountains to engage in a series of life-and-death battles against reactionary forces including the bandit leader Tian Dabang (played by Zhou Qi), the 'Drilling Leopard' (played by Shen Junyi), the one-eyed deaf (played by Liu Liehong), and the female Kuomintang agent Siya (played by Chen Maya).
