Jiangban runs a small publishing company with two friends. One night, Jiangban saves a woman who jumps into the Meguro River. The woman is named Akiko Takimura, and she says she ran away from home due to her husband's violence. Their peculiar life then begins. Two months later, the two marry and can often be seen together in the bars they frequent. Akiko later files for divorce from her husband, Toyo. Toyo is surprised by this news, as he has an unusual relationship with a nurse named Miyo at the university hospital, and he had previously forced Akiko to divorce him. However, jealous Akiko refuses to accept the divorce and once destroyed furniture in their home with a metal rod. When Akiko files for divorce again, Toyo does not respond this time and suggests that they start over. Around that time, a customer named Sakuno from a shop Toyo frequently visits is found murdered in his bathroom. It seems that before the incident, Sakuno received a call from a woman named Akiko from the store, and Takimura's business card was found at the scene. Jiangban thinks of Akiko and talks to a newspaper reporter's brother-in-law, Aoyama, and also visits Takimura. The information they hear about Akiko is completely different from what she told Jiangban. She is not the woman desperately enduring violence but a jealous woman. Jiangban suspects that Akiko is the one who killed Sakuno. The next day, while Jiangban is working on his day off, Akiko drops by the camp to see him. When Jiangban incessantly questions her, Akiko admits she lied about Takimura. However, she knows nothing about Sakuno's murder and feels despair under Jiangban's interrogation. At that moment, the phone on Jiangban's desk rings. The culprit of the Aoyama murder has been arrested, and it is claimed that the murderer is Takimura's wife, Miyo. This was a trap set by Miyo to incriminate Akiko. Realizing that Akiko is missing, Jiangban runs to the rooftop and sees her jump over the railing.
