In Western Cabbage Street, Mong Kok, Hong Kong, shops are lined up and tourists come and go constantly. Ha Gong (played by Eric Tsang) and Shi Jian (played by Jacky Cheung) have mobile phone shops facing each other across the street, and they both use various tricks to outdo each other in business, refusing to give way. In fact, they were good friends many years ago; the story of how they outsmarted the landlord back then is still a beloved tale, but they eventually fell out over a girl named Xiao Tao Hong (played by Yi Yung-lei). Now, Xiao Tao Hong is happily in love with Ha Gong, but deep down, she still cares for her former good friend Shi Jian. The children of both families also have private interactions and gradually develop feelings for each other. The major landlord is raising the rent threefold, causing the shopkeepers to rack their brains. Mysterious individuals have been throwing sulfuric acid from above, leading the residents of the small street into panic. In order to defend their survival rights and restore peace to Western Cabbage Street, the shopkeepers decide to unite and fight for their home together...This film is a collaboration between Shaw Brothers and TVB, featuring more than 100 stars from across the strait and three regions, earning it the nickname 'Hong Kong version of The Founding of a Republic'.
