According to the account in the "Book of Exodus" from the Bible, the "Ten Commandments" are ten rules given by God to humanity. What Kieslowski presents are ten modern parables of transgression. The ten short films depict stories of ordinary people in their everyday lives, yet they raise many questions related to morality, human nature, religious ethics, scientific rationality, and other aspects of the human spiritual world. The first commandment features the drowned little Babo, a result of his father's blind faith in electronic technology; the second commandment shows a woman making choices in a dilemma; the third commandment deals with marital difficulties; the fourth commandment discusses issues of family ethics... The tenth commandment ends with mistrust between two brothers. Kieslowski lays bare the ancient ten commandments for us, as the eternal human questions once again confront the challenges and doubts posed by various spiritual doctrines in modern society. Director Krzysztof Kieślowski won many awards, including the Children and Cinema Award at the Venice Film Festival in 1989.
