In the early Tang Dynasty, the Crown Prince Li Jiancheng closely befriended the general Huo Da under Prince Qin Li Shimin, accompanied by Shi Yansheng (played by Wu Xingguo). The two encountered Princess Hong'e (played by Chen Chong) during a hunting ceremony in the outskirts, and her enchanting presence left a lasting impression on Shi Yansheng. Not long after, the Xuanwumen Incident occurred. Shi Yansheng had learned of the news from Huo Da but was powerless to change the situation. The Crown Prince was killed, and to protect the Shi family's reputation, Shi Yansheng vowed to never serve the Tang Dynasty. He, along with five subordinates, shaved their heads and became monks, retreating to a temple with the hope of raising an army against Prince Qin. Soon, Princess Hong'e paid a visit, and the group lingered in the bustling world at the foot of the mountain, realizing that the situation had deteriorated and the country was at peace. On their way back, they were ambushed by the imperial army; Hong'e was killed by the sword, and Shi Yansheng was left in despair. He wandered to a run-down temple and was taken in by an old monk (played by Li Mingyang), but Shi Yansheng was haunted by past memories and unable to find peace. Soon, a woman resembling Hong'e appeared in the temple and shaved her head to become a nun, once again pulling Shi Yansheng back into the bonds of his memories... This film won several awards at the 1994 Hong Kong Film Awards, including Best New Actor and Best Film Music.
