Xiao Yu (played by Maggie Cheung) brought all her belongings to America, alone, to reunite with her long-time fiancé Peter (played by Chang Chen). However, after crossing mountains and rivers, Xiao Yu discovered that, in America, without residency rights, everything was extremely difficult for her. Encouraged by Peter, Xiao Yu decided to obtain residency rights through a sham marriage. They found a down-and-out gambler Qian Bao (played by Sammo Hung) and hoped to strike a deal with him. Thus, Xiao Yu became Qian Bao's wife. What Xiao Yu did not expect was that just one day later, Peter disappeared with all her assets, leaving her and Qian Bao confused and unsure of what to do. Initially, Qian Bao roughly kicked Xiao Yu out of the house, but later, feeling sorry for her, he took her in again. How will these two unfortunate souls survive in a foreign land?
