Master Ying Shu (played by Lam Ching Ying) has the ambition to establish a sect and leads five disciples in diligent practice every day. He is open-minded and lives in poverty, having nothing to his name, and he has to work as a night watchman to supplement his daily needs. Ying Shu is entrusted with guarding an empty mansion, where the six of them, having nowhere to stay, temporarily reside. Inside this mansion, there is a pair of ghosts from the Qing Dynasty, a ghost couple. The female ghost, A Juan (played by Law Kar Ying), suffers from the abuse and beatings by her husband. Ying Shu, acting with righteousness, drives the male ghost away, and A Juan chooses to stay by his side, getting along well with the five disciples. Soon, the male ghost returns with accomplices seeking revenge. Master Ying Shu and his disciples showcase their power and drive the ghosts away once again. A Juan also transforms from a submissive figure into one who stands tall before her husband, and thereafter, she practices ghost-catching techniques with the disciples every day. A group of foreign gangsters learns of information regarding a large amount of gold hidden in the mansion. They disguise themselves as church personnel and check into the mansion, attempting to kill Ying Shu and others to seize the gold...
