In 1940s Shanghai, a street punk named A Xing (played by Stephen Chow), who has suffered humiliations since childhood, is eager to rise above his circumstances. He seizes every opportunity he finds, this time setting his sights on the increasingly rampant gang known as the 'Axe Gang,' hoping to leverage their name for his own success. A Xing pretends to be a member of the 'Axe Gang' in an attempt to extort the residents of a place called 'Pig Cage Village.' However, this inadvertently draws the ire of the real 'Axe Gang' and the villagers. 'Pig Cage Village' is actually a hidden refuge for many highly skilled individuals (such as Yuan Hua and Leung Siu Lung), who have taken refuge there to escape from the troubles of the underworld, but trouble finds them regardless. As A Xing observes the conflict between the forces of good and evil, he gradually begins to comprehend the true essence of martial arts.
