Odell (played by Mos Def) and Louis (played by John Hawkes), two small-time thieves, meet after serving time in prison. The two of them, who are quite compatible, decide to team up after their release to pull off a big heist and live the rest of their lives comfortably. They set their sights on a wealthy capitalist named Frank (played by Tim Robbins) and kidnap Frank's wife, Mitch (played by Jennifer Aniston), to demand a huge ransom. However, Odell and Louis soon realize that their plan has backfired. It turns out that Frank already has a beautiful and sexy mistress, Maggie (played by Isla Fisher), and has no intention of paying the ransom to get his wife back. In fact, he hopes that the two kidnappers will quickly deal with his inconvenient wife, allowing him to avoid a lot of trouble.
