Since the fateful encounter with the three adorable little girls—Margo (voiced by Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (voiced by Dana Gaier), and Agnes (voiced by Elsie Fisher)—the former villain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) has truly transformed. He has turned over a new leaf, becoming a kind and affectionate father and a businessman who makes terrible-tasting pudding jelly. Of course, nothing is perfect; during this time, his old partner Dr. Nefario (voiced by Russell Brand), who yearned for the legendary life of a villain, left him for a better opportunity. One day, Gru is kidnapped by the reckless but skilled agent Lucy Wilde (voiced by Kristen Wiig), as her organization has developed a drug that can change biological genes. However, their laboratory in Antarctica was stolen by mysterious thieves, prompting them to enlist Gru as an undercover agent due to his past villain experience. After some consideration, Gru accepts the mission, teaming up with the adorable minions and Lucy to form a hilariously entertaining crime-fighting duo.
