Terry (played by Steve Guttenberg) is a young and promising architect who is secretly having an affair with his boss's wife, Sylvia (played by Isabelle Huppert). One day, Terry invites Sylvia to his home for a date, and while they are enjoying their intimate moments, Sylvia notices a woman being brutally raped by an assailant outside the bedroom window. Fearing that their affair will be exposed, Sylvia refuses to call the police, but not long after, she is brutally murdered. Not only that, but Terry also becomes the main suspect in the case. In order to avenge his lover and clear his own name, Terry joins forces with the victim, Denise (played by Elizabeth McGovern), and they decide to work together to capture the real killer.
