Forensic expert David (Ray Liotta) discovers evidence at the crime scene that is identical to clues from his wife's murder. David decides to investigate but has made no significant progress. It isn't until he meets a neurology professor, Martha (Linda Fiorentino), who is researching a special formulation that can transplant memory into mice, that his interest is piqued. David decides to attempt to inject the memories of the deceased into himself to understand the case and help find the real murderer. During the experiment, the suspected killer is shot dead during a standoff with the police, causing David to lose his only lead. To continue his investigation, he decides to borrow the memory of the deceased suspect, hoping to find the next clue. However, during this process, David unexpectedly discovers a massive lie that involves himself. His investigation gradually uncovers a complex conspiracy tied to his own life and origins.
