 Synopsis
In a family-owned Taggart Railroad Company, the current president is the family's eldest son, James Taggart, and the vice president is Dagny Taggart. The siblings have vastly different ideas and methods to save the company from its precarious operations. One merely utters vague investments in a Mexican - San Sebastian branch without any planning or execution schemes, often viewing situations through a bitter lens of jealousy toward others' success and slandering them. The other, driven by the motto 'I am like a starving madman, looking for anyone to get things done!' diligently collaborates with Eddie Willers, working tirelessly to complete the Rio Norte branch. She partners with Hank Rearden of Rearden Steel, using his newly invented alloy for the tracks. Unexpectedly, their success in creating the Rio Norte branch becomes another unfortunate beginning. Behind the scenes, 'Atlas Shrugged,' is the representative masterpiece of famous American philosopher and novelist Ayn Rand, a Russian-American novelist who champions reason and considers rationality to be the highest virtue of man. Defying traditional prejudices, she vigorously promotes individualism, asserting that a society that does not allow personal interests to maximize is not an ideal society. Her philosophy of Objectivism has been popular on American campuses since the 1950s, influencing generations of Americans and making her an idol for American youth. 'Atlas Shrugged' is her most well-known novel, which had a significant impact on American society. The book promotes the idea of money as supreme, exploring the morality of rational self-interest. Upon its publication in 1957, it faced severe social criticism but remarkably became a bestseller, with sales in the U.S. only second to the Bible, influencing many intellectuals of that time and even becoming required reading for American students.
