The story is set in New England in the 1630s. Due to his inability to accept the church's practices, the devout Puritan William (played by Ralph Ineson) is expelled from his plantation, forced to move with his wife Catherine (played by Kate Dickie) and their children to a desolate area. Starting from scratch and facing great difficulties, the unexpected disappearance of their infant son casts an unshakable shadow over the family. Harsh weather and poor harvests strain the couple's relationship, with Catherine nearly breaking down over the loss of their child. Meanwhile, their eldest daughter Thomasin (played by Anya Taylor-Joy), who feels primarily responsible for the child's disappearance, is weighed down by guilt. Soon after, their youngest son Caleb (played by Harvey Scrimshaw) encounters a witch in the depths of the forest, leading to his mental unraveling. The family's life spirals into chaos; will they find redemption through their faith?
