The story mainly describes four young people growing up in the Hakka tulou: Zhang Chongzhi (played by Li Mingshun), an empathetic newspaper editor; Hu Xusheng (played by Chen Hanwei), a passionate high school teacher; Zhang Jinghong (played by Xie Shaoguang), a resourceful pharmaceutical company owner; and Sun Shizhong (played by Qin Wei), an impulsive smuggler. They travel far to Southeast Asia to seek a living and start businesses, even participating in the struggle for independence. Throughout their tumultuous lives, they are always surrounded by three strong Hakka women: Ju Xiang (played by Guo Shuxian), Ruo Qi (played by Zheng Xiuzhen), and Jin Yan (played by Chen Huihui)...
