In the late Qing Dynasty, society was in turmoil. The Eight Banners youth, Wu Shibao (played by Chen Daoming), failed to inherit a title and spent his days wandering the streets, idle and carefree. One day, he met Xu Huanzhang (played by Ma Heping), a flag slave from his former residence. Xu, having risen in status, became arrogant and was publicly admonished by Shibao, which sowed the seeds of future troubles. When the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded Beijing, Xu leveraged his ability to speak a few words of Japanese to become the leader of the investigative team, and he took personal revenge on Shibao, sealing his death sentence.
