Amei (played by Wang Zuxian) is a beautiful girl, but she was born with a disability in her feet. Her father (played by Huang Zhan) was deceived by his cousin into buying a dilapidated supermarket, spending all his life savings, which drove him into madness. Amei has to take care of her father while also helping to manage the supermarket, bearing the heavy burdens of life on her shoulders. In a traffic accident, the driver Liang Shaozu (played by Chow Yun-fat) mistakenly believes he has crippled Amei, feels extremely guilty, and decides to help Amei run the supermarket.
