The time is the 11th year of the Tenpo era (1840). In a world disturbed by a great famine, demons had begun to take on human forms and tease humans for amusement. In a remote mountainous village far from the city of Edo, there lived a brother and sister named Jinta and Suzuon. The two were outsiders who had come to Kadono for some reason in their childhood but had been accepted by everyone and spent their days in harmony. In the village, there was a shrine maiden known as 'Itsukihime,' and as Jinta grew up, he took on the role of her bodyguard. One day, in the forest where he went to hunt demons, Jinta encountered a mysterious demon that spoke of a distant future.
