When a group of teenagers discover a corpse floating on a canal, the cruel reality behind evil crimes reveals the hidden secrets of a town.This Netflix film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Mexican writer Fernanda Mercho.The original work "Hurricane Season" tells the story of the witch murder in the village of Matosa, a small village in Mexico. The author uses the narrative of the murder case and uses a straightforward, dark, psychedelic and surging language style to present the tragic consequences caused by problems such as violence and machismo that are deeply rooted in Mexican society with literary writing.Since its first publication in 2017, the novel has been translated into nearly twenty languages, won the Berlin International Literature Award in Germany, shortlisted for the International Book Award, Dublin International Literature Award finals and the US National Book Award, becoming a contemporary classic that has miraculously risen in Mexican and Spanish literature.Elisa Miller, the first Mexican director in history to win the Cannes short Palme d'Or, will direct the film and participate in the script creation.Speaking of adapting the novel into a movie, she said: "Hurricane Season is the most important book for me and my contemporaries. Adapting it into a movie will encounter huge challenges, take on huge responsibilities, but also gain great joy. I want to say sorry to the novel readers - because you know, the movie can only present an imaginary version of the novel, and this movie can only be my version.
