In the early 1960s, in order to reduce the wind and sand hazards in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the state designated the Ministry of Forestry and Hebei Province to establish a mechanical forest farm on the Saihanba, the plateau desert in Chengde to resist the southern invasion of Hunshandake and Korqin sands. The first generation of afforesters represented by the protagonists Feng Cheng, Qin Xuemei and others - a 369-person land reclamation team with forestry college and technical secondary school graduates and forestry cadres and staff from 18 provinces and cities across the country led local cadres and masses to kick off the battle with nature.Unexpectedly, due to the harsh afforestation conditions, mechanical afforestation was switched to artificial afforestation. In an environment with an average altitude of 1,500 meters and a minimum temperature of more than minus 43 degrees Celsius, they fought against the severe cold, heat, threw away their youth, and shed their blood for half a century, creating the "largest artificial forest in the world", building a solid green ecological barrier in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, and protecting the blue sky in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. In the desolate Saihanba, Feng Cheng and his partners advanced and retreated, shared hardships, and also gained friendship and love, and wrote a magnificent poem of life.
