Tang Seng and his disciples arrived at Shitualing and encountered villagers from the Lion-Troop tribe who were captured by demons. When Wukong attempted to rescue his kin, he was recognized by the demons. Wukong and Bajie each fought separately and underestimated the enemy; they fell into the trap, and the three great kings defeated Wukong with their three great magical artifacts, spreading the rumor that Tang Seng had been devoured alive. A despondent Wukong sought help from Buddha and learned the lesson that a lone goose finds it hard to fly, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation. The three brothers united their efforts, with the Bodhisattva's assistance, ultimately rescuing the remaining citizens. The four of them continued westward, working seamlessly together.
