 Synopsis
Elizabeth, who works for the health department (played by Brooke Adams), collects a small plant in the suburbs and explains to her husband Jeffrey that it is likely a newly discovered species. Meanwhile, Elizabeth's colleague Matthew (played by Donald Sutherland) is facing retaliation for his meticulous law enforcement. The next day, Elizabeth is surprised to find that Jeffrey is behaving strangely and is very stiff. Elizabeth asks Matthew for help, and they soon discover that more people are exhibiting changes in behavior. Elizabeth witnesses Jeffrey meeting with a group of strangers, and before long, several people die due to physical mutations, sprouting white tendrils similar to those of a plant. Matthew reports the local biological crisis to the government but receives only a cold response. The alienation of the crowd begins to spread, leaving Elizabeth and Matthew isolated, yet they continue to try to save the city...
