The Superman who has always wanted to trace his roots (played by Brandon Routh) returns to Krypton in hopes of finding other companions, but everything there is long gone. That trip lasted five years. Five years later, Superman returns to Earth, but everything around him has changed. He discovers that Earth has adjusted to life without Superman's protection, and the woman he has always admired, Lois (played by Kate Bosworth), has won a Pulitzer Prize for writing an article titled 'Why the World Doesn’t Need Superman.' To make matters worse, she is engaged to the editor's nephew and is the mother of a five-year-old child. Meanwhile, his archenemy Lex (played by Kevin Spacey) has used despicable means to cheat a massive inheritance, attempting to make a comeback. In Antarctica, Lex finds clues about Superman's father and a crystal containing super energy, hoping to use the crystal's power to control the Earth. Can Superman overcome his inner demons and save the Earth once again?
