Simon (played by Jeremy Irons) is a meticulous and ruthless terrorist. To execute a grand conspiracy, he first orchestrates an explosion. While the police are pressed to solve the case, he calls Sheriff John McClane (played by Bruce Willis), claiming that the police must follow his series of instructions, or he will continue to detonate bombs throughout the city. With the help of the grocery store owner Zeus (played by Samuel L. Jackson), McClane follows Simon's directions, narrowly escaping death multiple times. However, Simon, who is not yet satisfied, orders McClane to defuse a bomb in a park and claims to have placed a bomb in an elementary school in New York City. The police and municipal officials mobilize almost entirely to evacuate students from schools and search for the bomb. McClane gradually grows skeptical of Simon's instructions one after another, and he ultimately uncovers the truth behind Simon's manipulation of the city's police force...
